Currently the Waka Ama NZ Race rules enable paddlers who are turning 16 in the year of competition to take part in open ocean events. However, there has never been a specific J19 division for these paddlers at the Takapuna Beach Cup and these aged 16-19 have had to compete in the Open division.
The introduction of J19 Division will enable bonafide J19 teams to compete in the 42km and 21km events.
Additional Junior Division Rules: (all general 42km rules apply):
21km all rules apply

These divisions will be eligible for prize money if the division meets the prizemoney criteria.
